But yes, a slot 2 cart should be backwards compatible all the way to a GBA

I have one and it sucks for that reason. I highly doubt that just because the DSi has been released that this will change.It looks a little more complicated that what I had thought.

The DS is made to support the gba natively. How are there hardware problems?The thing about GBA slot 2 device is that you have the roms on slot 1 cart and when you run the rom the m3 loads the rom to the gba slot 2 device so the DS can play it natively (like its playing a retail gba cart) im not sure if R4 can play gbas without a slot 2 device.

I don't think it's the game pak, as I never experienced it with my DS fat when I owned one. I'm still looking for a way to get my cart's saves onto the machine, but ones I'm nto too far into or haven't started yet, it's very convenient to have them on there. The original DS/DS Lite have the GBA slots, as do the GBA, GBA SP, and the Game Boy Player (GC accessory). Otherwise, those run GBA games without flashing anything.
